Swindon journalist and media consultant Fiona Scott has launched a podcast to dispel the myths and mysteries around the dark arts of PR.
Her PR Not BS podcast went live this month and features advice and tips to business owners, charities, social enterprises, company directors as well as public service organisations and other PR professionals.
“During the pandemic I’ve spent a lot more time training people in business and in the charitable sector to be visible and present when we were locked down tight for weeks at a time,” Fiona said.
“This led me to plan a podcast with the aim of removing some of the smoke and mirrors which exist around public relations. Every organisation, from business to charity has to be visible and there’s no way around that. How they make themselves visible is PR and it’s not a dark art. It’s hard work which requires effort and budget and it will be different for every organisation.”
The podcast features interviews with business owners and fellow journalists and influencers. To give it a kickstart, 12 episodes have been released this month and in 2022, two more will be published each month. Fiona has been recording her podcasts at the studios of Swindon 105.5 community radio in Liden.
“To date there have been over 370 downloads and the most popular have been interviews with a national journalist and a magazine editor sharing their views of PR – the best and the worst examples they’ve experienced.
“I’ve also interviewed business owners such as Wiltshire’s own James Phipps, former CEO of Excalibur, Dragons’ Den entrepreneur Ed Hollands of DrivenMedia and jewellery maker Lisa Berry of Cheeky Little Prints.
“In January, I’ll be kicking the year off with some PR advice for 2022 and later in the month, I’ll be publishing an interview with broadcaster, and fellow media trainer Janey Lee Grace,” Fiona said.
