A couple have shared their experience of navigating menopause in a book thought to be the only one in the UK which shares their joint experience of this important period in a woman’s life.
Kate Usher, who owns and runs Menopause in Business to help organisations become more menopause-inclusive, has worked with her husband Neil to share their joint experience of menopause. Kate was one of 25 per cent of women who suffer extreme and debilitating symptoms caused by this period of life.
“A Couple’s Guide to Menopause – navigating the change together” was published on Friday August 2 by Hero Press UK.
“Most men would run a number of marathons, back to back, rather than write a book about menopause. I asked Neil if he was up for it as so many men don’t know where to start,” said Kate.
The book marks a new chapter in the couple’s personal and professional lives. While Kate is renowned for her expertise in menopause coaching and training for businesses. Neil, a seasoned author himself on subjects including change, transformation and leadership, embarks on a unique journey, delving into the intimate and often unexplored realm of relationships during menopause.
‘A Couple’s Guide To Menopause’ promises to be a refreshing and engaging read, offering couples a concise, practical, and humorous approach to navigating the challenges of menopause together. Divided into eight insightful subjects, the book provides a comprehensive exploration of the menopausal experience from both partners’ perspectives.
“We’re thrilled to share our experiences and insights,” says Kate, “Our goal is to provide couples with a roadmap for navigating menopause with understanding, empathy, and humour. By encouraging open and honest communication, we hope to empower couples to embrace this chapter of life together.”
Neil said: “Learning together and continually talking is vital. Menopause is an experience borne alone by a woman but shared with everyone she interacts with. Especially her partner.
“It’s a marathon, not a sprint, where symptoms vary in type and intensity over many years – and they’re not always the obvious ones. Yet we’re still reluctant to admit or talk about it. There’s still so much more we can do which is why talking about it and breaking the taboo is so important.”
With its accessible and entertaining style, ‘A Couple’s Guide To Menopause’ is poised to resonate with readers globally. Whether you’re in your 40s preparing for the journey ahead or already navigating the complexities of menopause, this book offers a unique blend of wisdom and humour that is both relatable and informative.
As Kate continues to champion the cause of women’s health and workplace equality, ‘A Couple’s Guide To Menopause’ stands as a testament to her dedication and expertise in empowering individuals and couples to thrive during life’s transitions.
