Wrexham AFC, backed by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, has announced a record-breaking turnover driven largely by its soaring profile in the United States and the ongoing success of the Welcome to Wrexham documentary series.
For the financial year ending 30 June 2024, Wrexham AFC Ltd reported turnover of £26.725 million—an impressive 155% increase from £10.478 million the previous year.
Much of this growth came from commercial activity, which jumped to £13.181 million from £3.430 million. Matchday revenue also climbed, reaching £5.020 million compared to £3.124 million in 2023.
Attendance figures reflect the club’s rising popularity, with an average league turnout of 11,229 fans during the 2023/24 season, up from 9,975 the year prior. The Racecourse Ground saw its capacity raised on 23 December 2023 to 12,868, an increase from its initial 10,771.
A notable shift in revenue sources highlighted the global reach of the club, with 52.1% of turnover coming from outside the UK—primarily from North America. In contrast, only 24.6% came from international markets in 2023. The UK’s share fell from 74.8% to 47.5%, with the rest attributed to Europe.
In its official statement, the club attributed its year-on-year growth to the broad appeal and deep engagement sparked by Welcome to Wrexham, now filming its fourth season. Added income from participation in the EFL, compared to its previous National League status, also played a significant role.
Although the club posted a loss of £2.729 million—an improvement on last year’s £5.113 million deficit—£824,000 of this was tied to costs associated with promotion to EFL League One.
Following back-to-back promotions, Wrexham currently sits second in League One and continues to invest in infrastructure. Expanding the Racecourse Ground has been described as essential to the club’s long-term business plan. A planned pause in the Kop Stand redevelopment allowed for adjustments reflecting increased demand. A revised planning application has now been approved, potentially raising the stand’s capacity to around 7,500.
Staff numbers also grew, rising from 199 in 2023 to 255, with operating costs increasing to £11.044 million from £6.910 million.
In closing, the club extended its gratitude to its partners, fans, staff—including volunteers—and the team, acknowledging their vital roles in Wrexham’s continued success both on and off the field.
